While I bought this to use on my shepherds, I found that I need a liquid version for them. However, I enjoyed the smell and used it on the whole family. When the kids went away to sleep-away camp for a week, I sent them with a bar apiece, and I think it helped repel the night-time beasties. My son really suffers when he is bitten, and he didn't look so bad when he got home this time.
So, not great for the dogs, but great for the kids!
